Flush Axle End Wheelsets
RP25 contour, 0.110” tread, Black Nickel wheel finish
JB Wheelsets Flush Axles are very popular for upgrading Athearn dummy locomotives with plastic sideframes. They will fit into the existing axle carrier on the unpowered truck. The 40” wheel is used in older Athearn locomotives such as the F7, GP9, SD9, SW cow/calf, and the Baldwin S12. The 42” wheel is used on later Athearn models such as the SD40-2, GP38-2, GP40-2, and the modern GE locomotives and Amtrak P40s.
All JB Wheelsets Flush Axles feature precision machine-turned brass wheels conforming to the NMRA RP25 contour standard, with the standard profile width of 0.110”. The black nickel finish looks much more realistic than the “bright and shiny” look of other brands. The wheel surface is smoother than the stamped wheels of other manufacturers, reducing dirt accumulation. JB Wheelsets weigh more, lowering the center of gravity and helping your trains track better. And they’re insulated on only one side, so you can easily add electrical pickups.
