JB Wheelsets offers the highest quality wheels and axles available to the serious HO and G scale modeler. Our wheels are precision machine-turned brass, unlike the stamped wheels of other manufacturers. The wheel surface is smoother, reducing dirt accumulation. Our HO wheels all conform to the NMRA RP25 contour standard, with the standard profile width of 0.110”. And they’re Made in the USA!

Unless otherwise noted, all our wheels have a black nickel finish. This looks much more realistic than the “bright and shiny” look of other brands of wheelsets. JB Wheelsets weigh more than the others, which lowers the center of gravity and helps your trains track better. And they’re insulated on only one side, so you can easily add electrical pickups (which we will soon offer).

We offer several axle styles to meet a wide variety of applications.

Pointed Axles

Pointed Axles will fit most model railroad equipment, both vintage and modern freight and passenger cars, as well as pre-1984 Athearn dummy locomotives. We also offer NEM (Normal European Modeling) wheelsets to fit most equipment manufactured to NEM standards.

Shoulder Axles

Shoulder Axles are typically used on rolling stock with brass or white metal sideframe trucks. Several brass importers used these on steam locomotive pony (leading) and trailing trucks. They are also used on some passenger car trucks.

Blunt Axles

Blunt Axles are most often used where a Shoulder Axle end is too narrow. They can convert an older Athearn metal sideframe outside bearing powered locomotive into a very free-wheeling dummy unit.

Half Axles

Half Axles are commonly used to upgrade Athearn and pre-Walthers Proto 2000 locomotives with inside frame bearings and plastic sideframes. Compared to the original stamped sintered metal wheels, they reduce dirt accumulation and offer superior electrical pick-up. Step-by-step installation instructions are included.

Flush Axles

Flush Axles are very popular for upgrading Athearn dummy locomotives with plastic sideframes. They will fit into the existing axle carrier on the unpowered truck.

Resistor Wheelsets

Resistor Wheelsets are useful on DCC (Digital Command Control) equipped layouts with block detection for lineside signals, grade crossing activation, and to show block occupancy on a dispatcher’s panel. We offer several Ohm values to suit your needs.

G Scale Wheelsets
